Orillia Man Faces Human Trafficking Related Charges

The Peel Regional Police Specialized Enforcement Bureau (SEB) “Vice Unit” arrested and charged a 45-year-old Orillia man concerning a human trafficking investigation across Canada and believe there may be further survivors.

In July 2022, SEB Vice Unit investigators commenced a prostitution investigation that spanned numerous provinces across Canada. Investigators identified a young survivor and a male suspect. Investigators obtained a Canada-wide warrant for 45-year-old James Munday of Orillia for the alleged offences, including:

  • Exercise Control
  • Advertise Sexual Services
  • Breach of Undertaking
  • Assault

In October 2022, James Munday and the young survivor were located in the province of British Columbia. SEB Vice Unit investigators returned Munday to the Region of Peel, where he appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Investigators continued their investigation and, in February 2023, James Munday of Orillia was arrested and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. He was further charged with the following alleged offences:

  • Assault x 3
  • Utter Death Threats x2
  • Possession of Child Pornography
  • Sexual Assault
  • Human Trafficking

Investigators from the SEB Vice Unit believe there may be more victims of prostitution offences and witnesses to this investigation.
