The Orillia OPP arrested and charged one male driver with impaired operation related charges.
On February 26, 2023, just before 1 a.m., officers from Orillia OPP were conducting Speed Enforcement in the City of Orillia when a vehicle approached at a high rate of speed. Officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver displayed signs of alcohol consumption. Officers entered an impaired driving investigation.
As a result, Erik Asselin, 30-year-old, from Orillia has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired- alcohol
- Drive motor vehicle – not equipped with ignition interlock device
- Speeding 1-49 km/h over posted limit
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges on March 21, 2023. The accused driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle impounded for a period of 7 days.
