OPP Traffic Enforcement Over The Weekend Takes Three Drivers Off North Simcoe Roads

Uniform patrol officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP Detachment removed three drivers from North Simcoe roadways after officers conducted investigations as a result of traffic stops while conducting traffic enforcement.

An OPP officer on traffic duty in the area of Simcoe County Road 93 and Thompsons Road in the Town of Penetanguishene at approximately 7:55 p.m. April 2, 2023 noted a north bound BMW travelling at a rate of speed well in excess of the posted 60 km/h zone. The officer was able to safely stop the vehicle and conducted an investigation with the 21 year old male driver of Tay Township. As a result of the investigation the driver was charged with:

  • Stunt driving excess speed – 127km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone
  • Speeding
  • Fail to Surrender Licence
  • Drive motor Vehicle- No licence
  • Fail to surrender permit for vehicle

and Further with:

  • Owner operate motor vehicle no Insurance

The accused has been summoned to Provincial Offences court at a future date and his drivers licence was suspended and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines

At 2:51 p.m. April 2, 2023 a OPP officer patrolling Simcoe County Road 93, Midland stopped a vehicle for a traffic offence and entered into an investigation with the driver. As a result, the 31 year old female driver of Christian Island was charged with Driving while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused has been summoned to Provincial Offences court at a future date and her drivers licence was suspended and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines

An officer conducting traffic duties in the area of William Street and Highway 12, Midland at approximately 12:26 a.m. April 2, 2023 observed a vehicle travelling on Highway 12 at high rate of speed and was able to safely stop the vehicle. The officer after speaking to the driver entered into a drinking and driving investigation and during this roadside investigation the driver became physically combative, assaulting the officer and later damaged the police cruiser. An investigation into the driver was conducted at Detachment resulting in the following criminal code offences to be issued upon Zachary D. Laycock 33 years of Elmvale:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Assault a Peace Officer (two counts)
  • Mischief – destroys or damages property

And Further:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed
  • Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

The accused was released from police custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on April 20, 2023. As well, the accused faces a 90 day drivers licence suspensions as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines and a 14 day vehicle impound.
