OPP Seize About 50,000 Unmarked Cigarettes From A Vehicle On Hwy. 69

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a driver with speeding and possession of unmarked cigarettes.

On March 14, 2025, at approximately 7:55 a.m., the Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) Team of the OPP stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 69, Magnetawan First Nation.

The vehicle was travelling at a speed of 124 kilometres per hour (km/h) in a posted 90 km/h zone. During the investigation, police located and seized about 50,000 of unmarked cigarettes from the vehicle.

A 69-year-old person, from Thessalon, was charged with:

  • Speeding 1 – 49 Km/h over posted limit
  • Purchase unmarked cigarettes for sale
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes

The driver was issued a Provincial Summons and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 15, 2025, in Parry Sound.
