One person has been pronounced deceased following a shooting incident in Midland
On Friday, July 31, 2026, shortly after 8:00 p.m., officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of gunshots at an apartment complex on King Street. One individual was located with gunshot wounds and transported to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
Investigators believe this was an isolated incident with no signs of a broader threat. Local residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues.
The Southern Georgian Bay OPP Crime Unit is conducting this investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance is being provided by the OPP’s Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit and Forensic Identification Services.
