The OPP arrested and laid a slew of charges against a Midland resident after a number of community residents called the OPP Communication Centre to report an intoxicated person causing problems during a church service on Yonge Street in Midland.

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay OPP responded just before 10 a.m. on Oct. 13, located the individual and made an arrest under the Liquor Licence and Control Act. An investigation by the officers led to other charges related to a minor theft from a nearby convenience store. They also discovered further probation offences in three other service areas and found that the suspect is wanted for further investigation by another Southern Ontario Police Service.

The accused is Lloyd Thrasher, a 32-year-old from Midland with no fixed address. The investigating officers were transporting Thrasher to the Niagara Falls area when the OPP in-car camera system was damaged.

Thrasher has been charged criminally with the following offences:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Theft Under $5,000 – Shoplifting
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (three counts)

  • Being intoxicated in a public place, contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act
  • Having liquor in an open container in an unauthorized place, contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act
  • Abandoning material that is likely to become litter, contrary to the Environmental Protection Act

Thrasher was released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 28.
