Current details:
Heavy flurries and local snow squalls Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Hazard:
Locally heavy snowfall of 10 to 20 cm.
Wind gusts of 60 to 80 km/h in combination with the new snowfall resulting in significantly reduced visibility in snow and blowing snow.
Timing: Late Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.
Discussion:
Locally heavy flurries and snow squalls are forecast to develop late Wednesday evening in the wake of a strong cold front. These flurries and snow squalls will last through Wednesday night before weakening Thursday morning.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
