Arts Orillia in partnership with Orillia Concert Association brings you a remarkable concert of cello and dance May 10th at 7:30 p.m. at the Orillia Opera House, Gordon Lightfoot Theatre. Don’t miss EMPTY SPACE | EMPTY TIME & WORLDS WITHIN.
Arts Orillia is thrilled to host these exceptional artists as they make their way across Canada and Europe. The evening features solo musical performances by internationally renowned Canadian cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne with dance collaborations by award winning choreographer, Yvonne Coutts. This is a wordless conversation between two powerful bodies of work – one that expresses through movement, the other through sound. Poetically spatial and highly physical, dancers Amanda Bon, Jaqueline Ethier, Alya Graham, and Sarah Hopkin sensitively embody the energetic swells of sorrow and solace through Weinroth-Browne’s looping composition of notes.
The show has garnered rave reviews on tour. “Highly experimental, Worlds Within, is a fascinating album, and one which shows that the cello is far more of a versatile and expansive instrument than many would imagine.” (Progressor.net)
“Raphael is a modern day composer who lives and breathes his craft. A master on cello and the art of composition, he uses all of his influences from classical to metal and everything in between.” (Echoes and Dust)
“The dancing and partnering work was beautifully executed. It was raw, authentic and the emotions were definitely felt.” (Mooney on Theatre)
