Orillia OPP have arrested and charged a male and female with numerous charges following a traffic stop in Orillia.
On July 8, 2021, 10 p.m., officers stopped with a vehicle which was stationary on the side of Barrie Road, near downtown Orillia. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer began a drug investigation and a search was conducted. During the search, one of the suspects assaulted police in an attempt to flee in the vehicle. Both suspects were subsequently arrested.
During a further search of the vehicle, a quantity of cocaine, Canadian currency and a large number of what is believed to be counterfeit, high-end, brand name merchandise was located and seized.
As a result, Shamaree Murray, age 27, of Toronto, has been charged with:
- Flight from peace officer
- Dangerous operation
- Escape lawful custody
- Five counts of assault a peace officer
- Assault with intent to resist arrest
- Assault a peace officer with a weapon
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
- Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of illicit cannabis
- Fail to comply with probation order
- Mischief under $5000
In addition, Felicia Valiquette, age 33, of Essa, has been charged with:
- Flight from peace officer
- Escape lawful custody
- Obstruct peace officer
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
- Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of illicit cannabis
Both accused parties were held for bail hearings on July 09, 2021, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.
