A house fire at 87 Joseph Street in Port Carling Thursday night had drivers forced to take a long detour while crews battled the blaze.
Upon arrival at around 7 p.m., firefighters found a four-level building full of smoke. Firefighters from Milford Bay, Foot’s Bay, Glen Orchard, Minett and Bala attended the scene to assist.
Firefighters worked to find the hidden fire in the walls and ceiling for about four hours, gaining control by 11 p.m. The fire was declared out at 11:30 p.m.
There were no injuries reported. Investigators returned to the scene to try and determine a cause and a damage estimate. About 24 firefighters battled the stubborn blaze at the height of the fire and damage is estimated at $600,000.
The investigation has been turned over to the Bracebridge OPP.
