Bracebridge OPP say they responded to a complaint from a dog owner that their pet had been mauled and severely injured by another dog on Sunday June 13, 2021 at 8:30 p.m.
Police say the attack happened earlier that day on Phillip Street in Gravenhurst, and the injured pet had been rushed to an emergency hospital and sadly succumbed to her injuries. Officers conducted an investigation jointly with Gravenhurst By-Law officers and have subsequently charged a 47-year-old Gravenhurst woman with the following:
- Owner of dog – Fail to exercise reasonable precautions to prevent dog from behaving in a manner that poses a menace to the safety of persons or domestic animals
- Owner of dog – Fail to prevent biting or attacking a person or domestic animal
- Certificate of Offense – issued under the Dog Control By-law for allowing the offending dog to run at large
Gravenhurst By-Law has declared the offending dog a “dangerous dog” and issued a muzzle order.
The accused dog owner (police did not release the name) will appear in Bracebridge court on August 24, 2021.
