The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, together with other local school boards and police services, signed an updated Police/School Board Protocol on October 31st, formalizing a shared commitment to school safety and supportive partnerships.
“This protocol underscores our commitment to safe learning environments through proactive partnerships with local police,” said Frances Bagley, Director of Education for the board. “Working together, we’re creating positive spaces that support our students and staff.”
The updated protocol outlines how the school boards and police partners will cooperate with each other in dealings with students and police-related investigations. It also defines the respective roles and responsibilities of the school boards and the police for maintaining safe school environments, responding to incidents, and maintaining open lines of communication.
The agreement outlines police involvement in supporting youth, specifying when police must or may be involved in school incidents. It also highlights the police’s role in preventing crime and helping resolve conflicts within schools.
The Police/School Board Protocol (PDF) will be reviewed biannually to keep pace with the needs of school communities. This partnership marks a proactive step in enhancing safety and fostering respect in our schools.
