Bracebridge Student Awarded MROO Scholarship

This year, MROO (Municipal Retirees Organization Ontario) has awarded $120,00 in student scholarships distributed to 40 exceptional students across the province. The scholarships support recipients in their post-secondary studies. All recipients are family members of current MROO members. Scholarships are awarded in each Zone (nine Zones across the province and a 10th which covers the rest of the country) with recipients determined based on the number of applicants and specific eligibility criteria, including the student’s leadership skills, volunteer experience, and commitment to making a difference in their communities.

One student from Bracebridge was awarded a $3,000 Scholarship to go towards their education in 2025-2026. Marly Best is studying Social Work at Carleton University. In Zone 9 a total of 3 MROO scholarships were awarded ($3,000 each). A total of $9,000 was awarded to students in Orillia, Angus, and Bracebridge.

Cindy Snider, Director of Zone 9 (counties of Simcoe, Grey, Dufferin, Kawartha Lakes, and the District of Muskoka), explains the importance of the MROO student scholarship program. “Now in its 19th year, the MROO scholarship program is a part of MROO’s mandate to give back to our members and communities across Ontario. We are so happy to support these exceptional students. Congratulations and best of luck to all the scholarship recipients in Zone 9!”
