Bracebridge Man Charged With Impaired Operation Causing Death On Hwy. 11

Members of the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred on Monday, Oct 6, 2025, in the Township of Oro-Medonte.

On October 6, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Orillia OPP, Simcoe County Paramedic Services, and Township of Oro-Medonte Fire were dispatched to Highway 11 South, north of Line 15, following multiple 911 calls reporting a person lying on the roadway and a motorcycle at the scene. The involved pickup truck was initially accounted for.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male with clear signs of fatal injuries. Witnesses at the scene directed officers to the suspected driver of the pickup truck, who remained at the location. The driver exhibited signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested.

Witness statements obtained at the scene indicated that the motorcycle and pickup truck were engaged in a road rage-type altercation prior to the collision.

The deceased has been identified as a 27-year-old male from Toronto.

As a result of the investigation, Donald Austin, 37 years old, of Bracebridge, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Impaired Operation Causing Death
  • Dangerous Operation Causing Death
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand Causing Death
  • Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance
  • Driving While Under Suspension
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit

The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) Team attended the scene and is assisting with the investigation.
