The OPP in North Bay received a call for assistance earlier this month from the Public Health Agency of Canada. Officers were requested to complete a compliance check under the Quarantine Act in East Ferris Township.
Police began an investigation and found that the two people subject to the Quarantine Act had entered Canada in Fort Erie to attend a seasonal property on July 3, 2020. The investigation revealed that the couple were non-compliant with the mandatory 14-day self-isolation requirement upon entering Canada.
A 68-year-old and 70-year-old from Florida were charged with Failure to Comply with an Order Prohibiting or Subjecting to any Condition the Entry into Canada under section 58 of the Quarantine Act. The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is also engaged in this matter and both individuals are currently being monitored during isolation.
They were each issued a Provincial Offence Notice that included a fine of $1,000.
With the borders closed to non-essential travel, how did this couple get in?
The borders were never fully closed
What the hell does that mean.?I drive the border everyday as a truck driver..I dont see any cars going In or going out..so that can only mean the border agents are using there own discretion instead of following government mandated law..
We hear so many stories about the border. Like a fool, l am saying the border is open to essential workers, truck drivers and business people. Please let me know the answer to how this couple from Florida got into the country.
I though our fearless useless leader Trudeau put his foot down on this no Americans. Wow I guess he put his foot in his mouth instead again
Please don’t vote for him for a third term people, obviously this guy couldn’t lead his dog down the street.
should be forced back to the u.s.a.
The Borders were not closed to Canadians returning home. Were these people Canadian citizens? …….but we still had to maintain 14 days of self-isolation.
$1000 fine to them is like a $10 fine for most people. Why are they not returned to their home country?
If you own property you’re allowed in and have to self isolate for 14 days. Stop believing what you hear or read from the news. The border is not fully closed nor will it ever be. There have been over 2000 isolation compliance checks in the past month as requested by CBS to local police services. This violation isn’t surprising it just demonstrates that the system actually works.
They got in because they are Canadians returning from their Florida home. They DO have to quarantine for 14 days though.
