The West Parry Sound OPP participated in “Canada Road Safety Week” which ran from May 18 to May 24, 2021. This campaign is designed to increase public compliance with safe driving measures and target behaviours that put motorists, passengers and pedestrians at risk. The main focus of the initiative is on impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving and lack of seatbelt use.

During this year’s campaign, West Parry Sound OPP Officers were present and visible on local roadways which resulted in the following:

  • 44 Speeding Charges
  • Six Impaired by Alcohol Charges
  • One Impaired by Drug Charges
  • Four 90 Administration Driver’s Licence Suspensions (ADLS)
  • One Warn Range Suspension
  • Five Stunt / Racing Charges
  • One Seatbelt Charge
  • Two Careless Driving Charges

Though the campaign has ended, officers will continue to monitor trails, roads and waterways, to conduct enforcement as necessary.

The OPP reminds motorists to reduce your speed, ensure you’re well rested prior to travelling and BUCKLE UP to arrive at your destination safely. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
