Members of the Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), are investigating a boating collision that occurred on Lake Rosseau in Muskoka Lakes Township.
On July 31, 2026, at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers responded to reports of a boating collision on Lake Rosseau, near Backenrig Bay. Emergency crews attended the scene and located a severely damaged vessel resting on a rock ledge. Two individuals believed to have been aboard were missing. Extensive search efforts were immediately initiated; however, neither individual was located at the scene or in the surrounding area.
The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) has been deployed and is assisting with search efforts on the water.
The investigation remains ongoing as emergency responders work to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision and locate the vessel’s occupants. Search efforts are continuing today with assistance from specialized OPP resources. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area and allow emergency responders to safely and thoroughly conduct their search operations.
