Tourism Gravenhurst is pleased to announce that it has distributed $80,000 to six eligible Tourism Gravenhurst Grant applicants.
The tourism grant recipients are as follows:
- Muskoka Steamships
- TimberBeast Productions
- Muskoka Mind + Body
- Tall Pines Music and Arts Festival
- South Muskoka Minor Hockey
- Muskoka Pride Film Festival
“On behalf of the Tourism Gravenhurst board, I want to congratulate our recipients and thank them for their contributions to our economy,” Gravenhurst Tourism board president Scott Lucas said. “We know these organizations will use the grant funding to support meaningful initiatives that further enhance the tourism experience in Gravenhurst. This marks our first opportunity to award tourism grant funding and we look forward to awarding additional grant dollars later in the year.”
Grant funding is possible thanks to revenue from the Town of Gravenhurst’s Municipal Accommodation Tax.
Council approved the tax in August 2022, and it came into effect in January 2023.
The four per cent tax applies to all hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, and licensed short-term rentals.
Mayor Heidi Lorenz said Gravenhurst town council is pleased to support the local tourism industry through the Municipal Accommodation Tax.
“The tax allows us to generate funds that we can invest in important tourism-oriented initiatives that support our economy, helping to create a more thriving Gravenhurst,” Mayor Lorenz said.
