Three Drivers Charged In School Zone By Orillia OPP

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges following proactive traffic enforcement in school zones.

On October 21, 2026, an officer conducting proactive speed enforcement in a school charged three drivers with speeding within a 35-minute period.

The drivers who were travelling between 55km/h and 70km/h in the posted 40km/h zone were issued Provincial Offence Notices for speeding in a community safety zone.

Community safety zones are designed areas where public safety is a top priority. These zones are commonly located near schools, daycare, playgrounds, parks, hospitals, and collision-prone areas. Provincial Offence Notices issued in these zones may carry fines that are double compared to the same offence committed outside a community safety zone.

Safe driving is a responsibility that extends beyond school zones. Drivers should remain attentive at all times and exercise extra caution when travelling through Community Safety Zones.
