Sudden Death In Kearney Related To A Firearm-Related Hunting Incident

Members of the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a sudden death in Kearney, related to a firearm-related hunting incident.

On Monday, October 20, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the Almaguin Highlands OPP, Parry Sound District Emergency Medical Services and the Kearney Fire Department responded to a medical call in a bush area near the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs Trail D.

One person, a 71-year-old from Greater Napanee, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is continuing by the Almaguin Highlands OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS), and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF). Assistance is also being provided by OPP Forensic Identification Services.
