While the Township remains under a Flood Warning until April 28, water levels have stabilized, and are beginning to recede.
Residents are encouraged to continue to take precautions to protect their property until the water recedes to normal levels. The Township continues to recommend that items close to the water’s edge and in the lower levels of boat houses be secured in order to prevent damage. It is further recommended that you disconnect boathouses from the electrical supply and weigh down docks that may be susceptible to floating away.
Sand and sandbags are still available at both Hanna Park and the Bala Sports Park. As water recedes, residents and businesses are reminded that sandbags are considered contaminated waste. Residents can drop off used sandbags at the Eveleigh Road Transfer Station.
If you live in a flooded area, and are using a well for potable water, it may not be safe to drink. Property owners are responsible to test their water supply. Please visit the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit website for more information on private water during and after a flood.
Please contact the Building Department if you require any information regarding repairs to damaged buildings or sewage systems as a result of high water levels this spring.
The public should be aware that the Township will not be installing any of the Municipal floating docks until water levels subside significantly.
For those who choose to navigate waterways, be mindful of your speed in order to avoid unnecessary erosion, and the potential for floating debris in the waterway. Lost property can be reported to the Bracebridge O.P.P. either online at opp.ca or by calling (705) 645-2211.
