The Cavalcade Ford U15 REP team from the South Muskoka Minor Hockey Association won the Muskoka Parry Sound/Georgian Bay Regional Championship, qualifying the team for the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) finals in Windsor.

This weekend, Midland hosted the regional playoffs and the U15 boys responded like they always do, ready to compete. In the quarter final game against Huntsville, the Bears came out fast and furious, never letting off the gas, scoring nine times to beat Huntsville 9-2. The semi-final game against Collingwood was much like the first game. The Bears came out firing pucks, scoring 3 times in the first to take a commanding lead winning the game 6-3.

This set up the regional final between Midland and South Muskoka. These two powerhouse teams have won, lost and tied when playing each other this season. It was a close game, lots of pucks and bodies flying, end-to-end action, but South Muskoka scored first, 31 seconds into the 2nd period to take the lead.

Midland wouldn’t let that go unanswered and scored early in the beginning of the 3rd period to tie it up, but South Muskoka’s determination, effort and motto “NO MERCY” kept them coming back for more. The Bears took the lead again at the nine-minute mark of the 3rd period and never let go.

Stellar goaltending from Edwin Guthrie kept the Bears in the game as he turned away shot after shot from Midland’s offence. South Muskoka demonstrated excellent penalty killing throughout the game, fighting off a 5 on 3 and killing a total of 6 penalties throughout the game while their power play stuck twice to clinch the title of Muskoka Parry Sound/Georgian Bay Regional Champions.

The team had a goals against average (GAA) of plus 94 this season, dominating their opponents on all ends of the ice.

The Cavalcade Ford U15 REP team will move onto the OMHA finals next weekend. Click here to read more local sports updates.
