On Friday December 23, 2022 at 10:30 pm, the Township of Muskoka Lakes declared a Significant Weather Event in response to an unprecedented accumulation of snow. Since that time Township Staff have worked tirelessly to restore the Township’s road and sidewalk infrastructure to an acceptable condition. The Township is pleased to advise that as a result of these efforts, conditions have been restored to a state of acceptability and as of 12:00 pm today, December 31, 2022, the Significant Weather Event Declaration has been lifted.

Snow removal in Downtown areas will continue over the course of the weekend however, Township staff have worked tirelessly over the past week to ensure roads across the municipality are clear and safe for travel. Motorists are encouraged to continuing exercising caution throughout the Township because of narrow roads and the potential for localized ponding.

As a result of significant snowfall earlier this week, and the current rainfall, snow loads on buildings have increased significantly. While efforts are being made to remove the excess snow as quickly as possible, it is unlikely that the Bala arena will be cleared until next week.

“The community’s safety is our first priority, and out of an abundance of caution, all bookings from December 31st, 2022 until at least January 3, 2023 will be cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We thank residents for their patience as we worked through these extraordinary events, and Township staff who worked around the clock to ensure roads were safe for travel.” the township said in a media release
