As the anniversary of Gordon Lightfoot’s passing approaches, the community of Orillia is set to gather in remembrance of the legendary singer-songwriter. On May 1st, a tribute will take place at Tudhope Park, Orillia, at the site of the Golden Leaves Lightfoot Monument overlooking the shores of Lake Couchiching.
The event, organized by the Lightfoot Days Festival Committee, aims to celebrate Lightfoot’s enduring legacy and the profound impact his music has had on countless lives.
The tribute will feature remarks from the Lightfoot Days Festival Committee, reflecting on Lightfoot’s contributions to music and culture. Local musicians, including Steve Porter will perform Face of a Thousand People, Jeff Monague will perform a rendition of Christian Island, a magical Lightfoot song.
Adding a touch of Celtic flair to the tribute, the Brant Street Session, a Celtic group from Orillia, will perform, and Brant Street Session member, Alan Cooper will sing Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ral, honoring the profound Celtic influences woven into some Lightfoot’s music.
The event is open to all who wish to join in this tribute to Gordon Lightfoot’s extraordinary life and legacy. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or simply appreciate the power of music to unite communities, you’re warmly invited to attend this special gathering in honor of Gordon Lightfoot.
