The Town of Bracebridge, in partnership with Muskoka Off Road Cycling Association (MORCA), are proposing improvements to a section of the South Monck/Covered Bridge Trail behind the Meadow Heights subdivision. Members of the community are invited to complete an online survey to provide their feedback on the proposed plan on engagebracebridge.ca by Thursday, February 29.
The South Monck/Covered Bridge Trail is approximately eight kilometers long and travels along open fields and through a forested area with diverse terrain. The trail is enjoyed by visitors year-round for hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing.
To ensure the safe enjoyment of trail users moving forward, there are a number of proposed repairs and enhancements to be made, including:
- Restoring the existing trails;
- Completing informal routes;
- Installing wayfinding signage; and
- Developing new single-track mountain bike trails.
In addition to the above changes, this trail is identified as an area for potential improvement in the Recreation, Parks and Trails Master Plan, and includes:
- The consideration for dedicated mountain biking trails, new routes and formalization of existing informal routes, with signage and feature development; and
- Ongoing promotion of mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, walking/hiking as primary trail activities and opportunities to engage in activities to support health and wellness.
