Port Carling Pre-Novice Synchronized Skating Team Brings Home Silver At Provincials

This past weekend the Port Carling Skating Club Synchronized skating teams travelled to Stratford for the Skate Ontario Provincial Championships. The Pre-Novice (Star 8) team won the silver medal with their season’s best score of 32.51.

The Port Carling Skating Club was incredibly grateful and honoured to have two teams qualify, said the club’s board of directors member Tracy Larkman. They did so through a series of competitions throughout Ontario starting in December.  The Pre-Novice Ice Lightning team, consisting of skaters aged 13-18, skated to a disco-themed program. The Juvenile team, ages 10-14, skated to a diva theme and placed 10th.

Synchronized skating is a unique type of competition where eight to 16 skaters come together on the ice to perform as one. It takes hours of dedication on and off the ice for these young athletes to master their programs.  The club is extremely grateful to its head coach Marnee Reid for bringing her passion and skills for synchronized skating to the club.  Her dedication and love of the sport have attracted so many of our youth to skate and remain skating for life, said Larkman in an email to Muskoka411.

The club’s year-end carnival at Port Carling arena on April 1 at 6:30 will celebrate the Pre-Novice team on their silver medal and the Juvenile team on reaching the provincial championship. Admission to the event is by donation.
