On the evening of July 28, Barrie Police Service received a report of a male slumped over in the driver’s seat with the vehicle running. City of Barrie Fire and Paramedics attended the scene and located the driver passed out behind the wheel, and were able to wake him and speak with him briefly.
The driver then fled on foot as officers arrived. Canine officers were able to locate him shortly after, and the male was arrested.
The 38-year-old Oro-Medonte man was charged with:
• Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs
• Failure or refusal to comply with demand
• Driving under suspension (Highway Traffic Act)
The male was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where he will be held for a bail hearing.
Barrie Police want to remind motorists if you suspect a driver is impaired, call 911 with the location and any details you can provide.
Signs consistent with impairment include:
• Failure to maintain their lane
• Inconsistent speed
• Driving erratically
• Making wide turns
• Failing to signal
• Driving without headlights on
• Failure to stop in the proper location at an intersection or light
• Driver is unresponsive behind the wheel with the vehicle on
Police did not release the name of the accused.
