Orillia OPP Report Three Impaired Drivers

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged four individuals with impaired operation related charges in the past 7 days.

On January 24th, 2024, at about 2:47 p.m., officers from Orillia OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 11 northbound in Oro-Medonte heading towards the City of Orillia. It was reported that the vehicle was all over the road, travelling at inconsistent speeds and almost striking the guardrail. Officers patrolled for the vehicle and learned that it had been involved in a minor collision. With assistance from the public, the vehicle was located with the driver still inside. As a result of the investigation, it was determined the individual who was operating the motor vehicle was impaired by drug. The individual was then arrested.

As a result, Hazem Shamseldin, 49-years-old, from Mississauga has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-blood drug
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance – opioid (other than heroin)
  • Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Failure to stop after accident

On January 27th, 2024, at about 2:36 p.m., officers from Orillia OPP were dispatched to the parking lot of a local restaurant on Murphy Rd in the City of Orillia. It was reported that an individual was passed out at the wheel of a motor vehicle. Emergency services arrived to confirm the well-being of the individual and police commenced their investigation. As a result of the investigation, the individual was found to be impaired by alcohol and soon arrested.

As a result, David Heckindorn, 52-years-old, from Severn has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

On January 27th, 2024, at about 8:56 p.m., an officer from Orillia OPP while on proactive patrol observed a motor vehicle being driven down the wrong side of the roadway on Memorial ave in the City of Orillia. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver spoken to. The investigation led police to arrest the driver for impaired driving.

As a result, Nick Fomenko, 68-years-old, from Orillia has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired-alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The three accused persons in these unrelated investigations are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date in February 2024. As a result of these charges each of their driver’s licenses has been suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles impounded for a period of 7 days.
