OPP Investigating Suspicious Fire In Penetanguishene

A residential fire at an apartment complex this morning is being investigated by as suspicious.

On January 19, 2026, just after 7:00 a.m., uniform officers from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and members of the Penetanguishene Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the third floor of an apartment complex on Poyntz Street in Penetanguishene.

As fire crews extinguished the blaze, responding officers assisted in evacuating residents. One apartment suffered extensive damage; however, no injuries were reported. All residents, with the exception of those from the affected unit, have returned to their residences. (see attached photo)

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshal. No charges have been laid at this time.
