The West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a death on Sans Souci Island on Georgian Bay.
On October 19, 2024, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the West Parry Sound OPP responded to a report of a cottage fire and a firearm being discharged on San Souci Island on Georgian Bay.
The West Parry Sound OPP Marine Unit, OPP North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine, OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and Anishinabek Police Service Marine Unit attended the island where officers found a cottage engulfed in flames and a deceased person.
The investigation is ongoing by the West Parry Sound OPP Crime Unit with the assistance of OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
