OPP Investigating A Serious Assault In Midland

The Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating an assault that occurred in Midland.

On Friday, August 21, 2026, shortly after 2:30 a.m., OPP officers responded to a call for a disturbance at an address on Hugel Ave in Midland. Officers located one person outside suffering from serious injuries. The preliminary investigation determined that the victim sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing and they were transported to a local hospital, where they were later airlifted to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries.

Police are looking to speak with a person of interest, seen leaving the scene toward King Street, described as:

  • Indigenous or Hispanic male
  • Approximately 6’1″ tall (185 centimeters)
  • Approximately 240 lbs (108 kgs)
  • Wearing light coloured clothing

Investigators believe this was an isolated incident with no signs of a broader threat. Residents of Midland can expect to see an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues.
