Nipissing First Nation Wants Stolen Sacred Headdress Returned

Peel Police is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a sacred headdress which was inside a vehicle that was stolen in Mississauga.

On Friday, March 10, 2023, at 5:30 p.m., the victim parked his vehicle, a 2022 Green Jeep Wrangler with Ontario licence plate CFRV260, at a hotel parking lot in the area of Dixie Rd and Matheson Blvd in Mississauga.

Investigators believe that the vehicle was stolen at 3: a.m., on Saturday, March 11, 2023.   

Inside the stolen vehicle was a sacred headdress, with significant sentimental value and cultural historic importance. Police urge the public to assist them in locating the headdress, along with the vehicle.

“This headdress is of great significance for Nipissing First Nation, and its loss has had a deep impact on their community. Recognizing the highly sacred and historical importance of the headdress, I want to assure Chief McLeod and Nipissing First Nation that our investigators have been and will continue to work diligently to locate and ensure its safe return. We ask our community for their assistance by contacting investigators with any information that can bring this investigation to a positive and rightful conclusion.” said Chief Nishan Duraiappah of Peel Regional Police.
