New Licence Plate Recognition And In-Car-Camera Technology Comes To OPP Vehicles

0

The Orillia OPP have now installed and activated the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) and In-Car-Camera systems in all patrol vehicles.

Bracebridge OPP says most of their vehicles have been outfitted with this technology, however it is not yet operational for officers in Bracebridge yet.

The OPP have invested in technology that will notify the officers operating patrol vehicles the information related to vehicle licence plates that are not valid, are wanted or missing persons, stolen vehicles, stolen and unattached plates, suspended/prohibited drivers and vehicles associated with AMBER Alerts.

The OPP says this will support officers in maintaining a safer community and input data at a faster rate than human input.

Orillia Detachment patrol vehicles will be equipped with in car cameras.

The Orillia Detachment continues to see drivers operating vehicles that do not have valid registered plates. Although vehicle owners are not required to purchase a validation sticker for their vehicle, licence plates are still required to be renewed to be valid annually or bi-annually.
