Multiple People Rescued, One Person Charged After Apartment Fire In Orillia

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a person for arson in the City of Orillia.

On October 31, 2024, at approximately 5:40 pm the Orillia OPP responded to a call from the Orillia Fire Department (OFD) of a fire at an apartment building on King St. in Orillia.

Officers attended the scene and observed the OFD extinguishing the fire in one of the apartments. The fire was contained to one unit of the apartment building.

The Orillia fire department said multiple people had to be rescued.

Scott Reed, age 39, of Orillia was arrested and charged with the following;

  • Arson – Damage to Property
  • Common Nuisance – endanger life

The accused was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries related to the fire and remains in police custody pending a bail hearing.
