Orillia McDonald’s Restaurants raised $22,434 for two local children’s charities through this year’s McHappy Day event, including $11, 217 raised for Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH).
McHappy Day, which took place on May 10th, unites the community around supporting local sick children and their families. Participating McDonald’s Restaurants locations donated a portion of all menu items sold towards OSMH and Ronald McDonald House Toronto.
This year, Orillia’s three McDonald’s locations raised $22,434 through McHappy Day, almost doubling last year’s total.
Funds donated to OSMH through McHappy Day will go towards the purchase of new Broselow carts for OSMH’s Paediatric department.
“It was such a great opportunity to be a part of this wonderful fundraiser for our community,” said Laura Ferris, Program Manager of OSMH’s Birthing Program and Interim Program Manager of OSMH’s Children’s Services. “Raising over $11,000 to purchase Paediatric Broselow carts is truly an incredible achievement!”
The colour-coded Broselow carts reduce the time it takes for health care providers to identify appropriately sized life-saving equipment and medication dosing that may be required in an emergency. The new Broselow carts will be used to respond to medical emergencies in patients up to 12 years old.
“It was so nice for our team to receive community support from our customers, OSMH team members, and the volunteers that came out to help,” said Jason O’Neill, Owner/ Operator of Orillia McDonald’s Restaurants. “It really puts a smile on our face to see everyone working together to provide the best services possible for our local sick children in need.”
Since 2003, Orillia McDonald’s Restaurants have raised over $105,000 to support Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. These investments have helped to enhance Paediatric services at OSMH and provide advanced care for Orillia’s rapidly growing population.
“As the home to the Regional Women and Children’s program, our hospital supports the health and wellbeing of children and their families from Simcoe County, Muskoka, Parry Sound, Haliburton and surrounding areas,” said Katy Rea, Director of Philanthropy for Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation.
“The support we continue to receive from Orillia’s Mcdonald’s locations ensures that our local children get the best care possible when they need it most.”
