Man Charged By South Simcoe Police And 21 Stolen Vehicles Recovered

On the 5th of May 2023, the South Simcoe Police Service received a call to an Innisfil area automotive business in relation to a dispute over a vehicle. Upon arrival police learned that a Midland man had located his truck previously reported stolen parked at the business. Officers arrived to mediate the dispute and were able to confirm that the truck did in fact belong to the Midland man.

A 25 year old Churchill male was arrested at the scene for possession of stolen property, alter vehicle identification number and mischief. Officers obtained a search warrant for the property which was executed the following day. Officers from the South Simcoe Police Service Street Crime Unit assisted by members of Uniform Patrol and Community Support executed the search warrant. Officers located 21 additional vehicles stolen from 3 provinces.

Police recovered over $400,000 in stolen vehicles.

Several vehicles were found to have had alterations to their vehicle identification numbers. Officers have been working diligently to reunite the lawful owners with their vehicles since the date of the search warrant. Several of the victims did not have insurance on their vehicles for various reasons.

Initially, the accused was held for bail related to the possession of the 2019 GM Sierra pick up and later released on conditions. On the 23rd of May 2023 the accused was found in breach of his release conditions and was arrested and held for bail. An additional 80 charges were added in connection with the other vehicles that have since been identified as stolen over the past two weeks. The accused was held for a bail hearing on the 24th of May 2023.
