Male With Weapon Arrested In Midland After Domestic Incident

An OPP search for a male with a weapon who fled a domestic incident ended in his arrest, thanks to assistance from the public.

On December 2, 2022 at 8 p.m, members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP responded to a domestic incident at a residence on the east side of the Town of Midland. Officers investigating an assault allegation learned that a male suspect fled the residence and was believed to be carrying a rifle-style weapon. The area was flooded by patrol members who were assisted in the search by members of the OPP Central Region Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team(ERT), and the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) .

At 11:15 p.m, officers located and arrested the male walking on Elizabeth Street. A knapsack was located nearby the male and contained the weapon and a quantity of controlled substances.

The 37-year-old male of no fixed address was transported to detachment and the investigation has resulted in him being charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Assault – Spousal
  • Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose x 2
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Cocaine
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking x 2
  • Fail to Comply with a Probation Order

Police did not release the name of the male.

The male was held for a bail hearing on December 3, 2022 before the Ontario Court of Justice.
