On October 10, schools from all across Muskoka participated in the 39th Evan Luker Fun Run at Macaulay Public School (MPS).
The annual event, which has taken place since 1985, honors a former MPS student who tragically passed away at the age of nine in a car accident. Evan’s father always describes him as a young boy who loved to be active, running, and climbing while playing with his friends. As a result, each year, MPS hosts the run as a way to honour Evan’s memory.
The morning hosted students in Grades 5 to 8, then Grade 1 to 4 students in the afternoon, with a final MPS Kindergarten lap to wrap up the day.
“The MPS intermediates were an integral part of this run. Not only were they participants in the run, they were also team greeters, rabbits (pacesetters), turtles (an individual who hangs back to ensure all runners are safe/stay on course), and fabulous ambassadors of MPS,” said teacher, Brian Andreasen. “A huge shout-out goes to the incredible community volunteers, Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police, Muskoka Emergency Medical Services, and all the visitors for supporting this fantastic day!”
