The Town of Huntsville is seeking the community’s feedback on how they would like to see fireworks regulated and the responses will help inform a review of the Fireworks By-law. The survey is now open on myhuntsville.ca and closes on October 3, 2025 at 5 pm.
The survey asks respondents to provide their feedback on two types of fireworks: consumer and display. Consumer fireworks are outdoor, low hazard fireworks that are designed for recreational purposes. These are the fireworks that can be purchased at licensed retailers and are often set off for recreational use in celebration of a statutory holiday or personal celebration. Display Fireworks are outdoor, high hazard fireworks that are designed for professionally licensed holders only. Display Fireworks are authorized through the Huntsville Lake of Bays Fire Department as per the Explosives Act (R.S.C., 1985, Chapter E-17).
This public engagement came as a result of a delegation at the June General Committee meeting where residents presented a petition to ban fireworks in the Town of Huntsville. Committee requested a review of the Fireworks By-law and staff will return to General Committee with the results of the survey and a recommendation.
