The Town of Gravenhurst is excited to launch a contest to name the carved moose that has greeted visitors to Town Hall for almost ten years. Created by local chainsaw carving artist, John Kerr, the moose lived outside the town offices until 2021 when he received a well-deserved refresh from Rob Abbott and painter Nancy Hunter and took up his new post inside.
The public is invited to submit ideas to name this special moose. It’s easy to get involved! Enter the contest by submitting your name for the moose using one of these options:
- Submit your name using the ideas tool on the Engage Gravenhurst project page: EngageGravenhurst.ca/NameTheMoose
- Download the colouring page on the website and submit it to the Town Office or scan and email to gravenhurstcommunications@gmail.com
- Watch for social media posts and submit your name for the moose in the comments
The five best names will be chosen for a vote. The top five will be selected by how frequently they are submitted, if they are fun and family-friendly, and have a connection to Gravenhurst. There will be an opportunity to vote for your favourite starting on April 10, 2023. The winner will be announced on April 23 – the 136th anniversary of the incorporation of the Town of Gravenhurst.
Let’s have fun, celebrate Gravenhurst, and submit your best idea for a name so our friend won’t be anony-moose anymore!
