Customers Can Choose from Three Electricity Price Plan Options

Elexicon Energy (Elexicon) has launched a new electricity price plan option for its residential and small business customers. The Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) price plan provides a third option for Elexicon customers, in addition to the existing Time-of-Use (TOU) and Tiered plans. The Ontario government announced the new price plan earlier this year to provide Ontario’s electricity consumers with more choice when it comes to their energy bill.

“Elexicon is pleased to offer a third price plan options for its residential and small business customers,” said Kriston Romano, Vice President of Customer Experience. “This new pricing option offers our customers more flexibility to help manage their electricity costs by shifting high electricity-usage activities, like electric vehicle charging, away from peak times. Additionally, ULO is a positive step towards supporting electrification and a sustainable energy future in Ontario.”

The delivery of this new ultra-low overnight rate is possible as Ontario continues to have excess clean electricity during overnight hours. Shifting electricity use to these hours will allow the province to better leverage Ontario’s clean electricity grid, increasing grid efficiency, resulting in potential capacity cost savings for the electricity system of up to $5.7 million per year, helping to reduce costs for all Ontario ratepayers.

  1. The new optional third price plan is available to all eligible Regulated Price Plan TOU and Tiered consumers.
  2. With TOU and ULO, the price depends on when you use electricity. With Tiered, the price depends on how much electricity you use overall in a month.
  3. Families and small businesses can use the OEB’s Bill Calculator to determine what electricity rate plan – TOU, ULO or Tiered – best suits their lifestyle in order to help them save money on their energy bills.
  4. The creation of the ultra-low overnight rate will help reduce emissions by encouraging the use of nighttime electricity, which is typically generated from clean, zero-emissions resources like nuclear, hydro and wind power.
