On September 21, 2025, members of the Orillia OPP responded to a reported disturbance in the area of Quetton Street, involving two male individuals engaged in a verbal altercation.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with several witnesses who reported that the males had been asking passersby for lighters to light cigarettes. When none were available, a verbal confrontation ensued between the males and others in the area. Both individuals had reportedly fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Officers were directed toward Muskoka Street, near the CN Rail yard, where they located two males involved in a heated verbal exchange. One male, matching the earlier description of wearing a green T-shirt and approximately 6 feet tall. He was observed to be agitated, yelling profanities at police and members of the public.
While officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and determine the facts, the individual removed his shirt and continued to shout profanities at pedestrians and drivers passing by. His behavior drew attention from the public and disrupted the peace in the area.
The male, who later confirmed his identity as Daniel Ley (DOB: July 5, 1996), was placed under arrest for Cause Disturbance. Officers also noted signs of intoxication, including the smell of alcohol and slurred speech. It was further determined that Ley was currently bound by a probation order and a conditional sentence order at the time of the incident.
The accused was subsequently transported from the scene without further incident and held for a bail hearing.
