At the August 26, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) Public Meeting of the Board, Grade 12 Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School student, Alex Goltz, was sworn in as the new student trustee by chair of the Board, Colleen Wilcox, and director of education, Wes Hahn.
“Being elected by your peers into the role of student trustee is an honour. It is an opportunity to represent the voice of students in TLDSB by bringing forward concerns and ideas to the Board table,” explained TLDSB chair of the Board, Colleen Wilcox. “On behalf of the trustees and senior administration team, I welcome Alex as the new student trustee and look forward to working alongside her and Taliah this upcoming school year.”
Goltz signed a declaration of her intent to carry out the duties of a student trustee for a one-year term, where she will work alongside current student trustee, Taliah McNelly, and the TLDSB G7 Student Senate*.
“Becoming a student trustee has made me so proud to represent my community and the student body,” said Goltz. “I look forward to creating new and fresh concepts for campaigns that will better student well-being throughout TLDSB. Some of the actions I plan to tackle this school year are food insecurity with the Great Grain Challenge, and advocate for more knowledge around invisible disabilities.”
*The TLDSB G7 Student Senate is a group of students made up of one representative from each of the secondary schools, including the Virtual Learning Centre, elected by their peers to help communication between students and bring student issues to the Board of Trustees.
