Attention Actors: Open Auditions For The SpongeBob Musical

The Huntsville Festival of the Arts (HfA) and the Rotary Club of Huntsville are thrilled to announce open auditions for their 15th annual spring musical production: The SpongeBob Musical.

Auditions will take place at the Algonquin Theatre on:

  • Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 1:00–6:00 pm
  • Tuesday, October 21, 2025 from 5:00–9:00 pm

An information session about the auditions and production will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 6:00–7:00 pm at the HfA Studio.

Rehearsals begin Sunday, January 4, 2026 and will be held on Wednesdays (7:00–10:00 pm) and Sundays (12:00–4:00 pm). Performances run for seven shows at the Algonquin Theatre from April 10–19, 2026.

Audition Requirements

Auditions are open to actors ages 10 and up. Featured roles available include SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, Squidward, Plankton and more. There are also numerous ensemble opportunities to bring the bustling citizens of Bikini Bottom to life.

Those wishing to schedule an audition time must complete an online Audition Request Form at huntsvillefestival.ca Registration closes October 18 at 12:00 pm. Spots are first come, first served. Walk-ins will be accepted on audition days as time permits. Please note that all roles are non-paying.

About the Show

Plunge into this stunning all-singing, all-dancing, dynamic stage show! When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. The power of optimism really can save the world!

Based on the beloved animated series created by Stephen HillenburgThe SpongeBob Musical features a book by Kyle Jarrow and original songs by an extraordinary lineup of artists including Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants, and T.I. The score also features songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley, with additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton and additional music by Tom Kitt. Conceived by Tina Landau, this celebrated production has become a favourite of community theatres across North America.

This exciting new community theatre production will be directed by Lauren Rodrigues, a local theatre artist and past president of the Huntsville Theatre Company. Lauren has previously directed productions including Boeing BoeingPollyanna, and The Wakowski Brothers.
