Arrest Made In Vehicle Theft Investigation

Members of the Haliburton Highlands OPP have made an arrest in connection to a vehicle theft investigation in Minden Hills Township.

On February 26, 2022, just after 8:00 a.m., officers attended a residence on Scotch Line Road, after a caller reported that their vehicle had been stolen. The owner was able to use an onboard GPS tracker to locate the stolen vehicle. Officers attended a commercial parking lot in Minden, located the vehicle and made an arrest without incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old male of Minden Hills Township, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – two counts
  • Operation While Prohibited
  • Driving While Under Suspension

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Earlier that morning, at approximately 6:00 a.m., Haliburton Highlands OPP recovered another stolen vehicle that was located abandoned in a ditch on Scotch Line Road. Witnesses saw two males flee the scene. The investigation is ongoing and at this time, it is unknown whether these thefts are related.

Local residents are reminded to always lock their vehicles and take keys with them. Residents are also asked to check their security cameras and report any suspicious persons or activity to police.
