The Ontario government is providing up to $673 million to long-term care homes to hire and retain up to 10,000 staff across the province. This includes $6,061,368 for long-term care homes in Parry Sound – Muskoka.

This investment builds on the $270 million that Ontario provided to long-term care last year and is part of the province’s $4.9 billion commitment to hire more than 27,000 long-term care staff over four years to ensure that residents receive on average four hours of direct care per day by 2024-2025. This funding will increase the provincial daily average of direct care to three hours and 15 minutes per resident.

“We know that more qualified staff means more daily care for residents,” said Paul Calandra, Minister of Long-Term Care. “Hiring more staff is part of our government’s plan to fix long-term care and improve the quality of care residents receive and the quality of life they experience.”

The funding at each long-term care home is based on the number of beds currently in use at that facility. These funds will increase care for residents at:

“I am very pleased to see this increased funding to hire and retain staff at long-term care homes in Parry Sound – Muskoka,” said Norman Miller, MPP for Parry Sound Muskoka. “Hiring more staff will ensure that residents receive the high quality, daily direct care that they deserve.”

Hiring thousands of new staff at long-term care homes and increasing the amount of care they deliver each year will be made possible by annual funding increases to homes:

  2. $673 million in 2022-23
  3. $1.25 billion in 2023-24
