Almaguin Highlands OPP Active On Snowmobile Trails

Members of the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with the OPP SAVE Unit, are actively patrolling Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trails throughout the Almaguin Highlands area this weekend.

Snowmobilers using the OFSC trails are reminded that they must carry all required documentation, including valid proof of insurance and vehicle registration. Trail permits must be displayed, and registration number must be clearly visible. Drivers are also required to carry a valid driver’s licence or motorized snow vehicle operator’s licence.

Before heading out on the trails, riders are encouraged to keep the following safety reminders in mind:

  • Check trail status:

* Ensure the trails you plan to use are open and in safe condition

  • Obey speed limits:

* Maximum 50 km/h on trails

* 20 km/h on roads posted 50 km/h or less

* 50 km/h where the road limit is over 50 km/hr

  • Never operate a snowmobile while impaired
  • No Ice Is Safe Ice:

* Always check conditions before travelling on frozen lakes and waterways

 Members of the Almaguin Highlands OPP and SAVE unit are committed to public safety. Unsafe or unlawful activity can be reported to the OPP by calling 1-888-310-1122. For emergencies, call 9-1-1.
