Township Of Muskoka Lakes Declares Significant Weather Event

0

The Township has declared a Significant Weather Event, at 10:50 pm on Friday December 23, 2022.

During a significant weather event, the Township recommends you avoid unnecessary travel, if possible, stay home and avoid travelling on roads and sidewalks.  If you must go out, exercise extreme caution, and as always, please stay a safe distance away from winter maintenance vehicles to give them space to work.

A municipality may declare a significant weather event when a weather hazard, either forecast or occurring, has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the roads and sidewalks which they have authority over. This declaration suspends the standard timelines required for municipalities to meet their winter maintenance objectives. Learn more about significant weather events on the Township Website.

It’s important for households to have a plan in place, and an emergency kit ready during winter storms – this kit should include items your family needs to get by for three (3) days if you’re stuck at home. More information about emergency preparedness, and winter storm safety can be found on the Emergency Management Ontario website.

The significant weather event declaration will remain in place until weather improves, and officials advise that the Significant Weather Event has ended. Please follow the Township of Muskoka Lakes on social media, or visit www.muskokalakes.ca for the most up-to-date information.
