The Huntsville OPP responded to 242 calls for service from Monday November 21, 2022, to Sunday November 27, 2022.
The Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) Program began across the Province of Ontario on Thursday November 17, 2022 and will end on Monday January 02, 2023.
Members of the Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have worked extremely hard over this past week in the Huntsville and Lake of Bays township areas.
The Huntsville OPP also participated in the Santa Claus Parade.
The following are a few of the highlights of the work done in traffic enforcement by the members of the Huntsville OPP:
– Thirty-three speeding charges were laid.
– One distracted driving charge was laid
– One careless driving charge was laid
– Twenty-two R.I.D.E. check stops were set up on roadways throughout the Huntsville and Lake of Bays township areas.
– Huntsville Detachment responded to one hundred and four traffic related complaints.
– Impaired Investigation below:
On November 27, 2022, at 5:52 a.m., OPP were notified of a possible impaired driver in the downtown area of Huntsville. The vehicle was located on Duncan St. Huntsville. As a result of the investigation, Amanda Bennett (40 years of age) of McMurrich-Monteith Twp, Ontario was charged with the following:
– Operation of a motor vehicle with over 80 mgs of alcohol in his blood
– Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear on January 17, 2023, in the Ontario Court of Justice, Muskoka.
Huntsville OPP remains committed to ensuring Ontario roads are safe from alcohol-impaired and drug-impaired drivers. The OPP is reminding drivers that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when operating a motor vehicle. Make alternative arrangements, such as a designated driver, taxi, ride share or staying the night.
Motor Vehicle Collisions:
Twenty, motor vehicle collisions were investigated during this time frame. Please reduce your risk of being involved in a collision by following the rules of the road, and drive according to conditions i.e.: construction, weather, volume of traffic.
Domestic Violence Investigations:
Detachment members investigated 8 domestic disputes during this time frame. Charges were laid in relation to one of these 8 investigations.
On November 22, 2022, officers responded to a domestic occurrence. The accused has been charged with assault. The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Muskoka on January 10, 2023.
