Funding Allocation Represents A 10% Increase Over 2024
(Parry Sound-Muskoka) – The Government of Ontario, through the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF), is investing over $28.1 million into municipalities across Parry Sound-Muskoka in 2025, an increase of $2.6 million or 10% over 2024. The OMPF is the province’s main general assistance grant to municipalities, providing unconditional, stable and predictable funding.
“Our government continues to make historic investments into communities across Parry Sound-Muskoka,” said MPP Graydon Smith, Parry Sound-Muskoka. “We are giving municipalities the funds they require to deliver critical municipal services to their residents. As a former mayor and president of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, I know firsthand how critical these unconditional funds are for our communities,” said Smith.
As part of its historic support of Ontario municipalities, the government is increasing the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) by $100 million over two years, bringing the total funding envelope to $600 million by 2026.
For 2025, the OMPF will include an immediate increase of $50 million to provide $550 million in unconditional funding to 390 municipalities. The $50 million enhancement will be targeted to small, northern and rural municipalities and those with a limited property tax base.
“This $28.1 million investment, along with the recently announced $50 million to the District of Muskoka for infrastructure upgrades and the $12 million to municipalities through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF), brings our government’s investments into the riding over the past few months alone to over $90 million,” added MPP Smith. “These funding commitments are unprecedented and are positively improving the lives of our residents.”
Ontario has been steadily increasing support to municipalities. From 2019–2023, key provincial support to municipalities grew by over 45 per cent. In 2023 alone, the government provided almost $10 billion to Ontario municipalities through key transfers. This includes increasing the Homelessness Prevention Program to $654 million annually, as well as enhanced support for northern and rural communities, such as the nearly $2-billion Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) and the Northern Ontario Resource Development Support (NORDS) program.
